Members Only: A Dozen Things You Can Do With Your Research to Celebrate St Patrick’s Day! with Joe Hunter, TIARA VP

March 14 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Researching your Irish Ancestors can be challenging. However, the rewards can go far beyond the interesting research findings. The creative use of technology, online databases, free and available software programs, coupled with creative ideas, affords researchers the opportunity to do more than simply locate the land of distant ancestors. For researchers that plan on visiting Ireland, and even those who may not, the ability to see the actual location where their ancestors were from, while sitting at their home computer, is an exhilarating experience. Here are a dozen ideas for your research!

Joe Hunter has a certificate in Genealogical Research from Boston University (OL29), a certificate of completion in the ProGen 50 Study Group, and is the Past President on the Board of the Greater Philadelphia Area Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists (GPAC-APG). He is also the Presentation Coordinator for The Main Line Genealogy Club (MLGC), and President of The Irish Ancestral Research Association (TIARA). Joe is a volunteer genealogist for the Vineland Historical & Antiquarian Society (VHAS). Joe has been researching his family history for the last 25 years, having traced all (16) of his 2X great grandparents back to Ireland. Joe has utilized his research to obtain dual citizenship with Ireland, and participated in a research trip with New England Historic Genealogy Society (NHGS) to the Public Records Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) in 2012. On most days, Joe can be found pursuing some forgotten ancestor, in an obscure townland in Ireland. As his wife likes to say, “Joe, you have more dead friends, than living ones”. Genealogy is the gift that keeps on giving. So, there is no time to waste!
