The Registry of Deeds in Dublin Holds Genealogical Treasure

The Registry of Deeds is a repository for deeds of sale and lease documents. Though many Irish immigrants did not own property in Ireland, they or their ancestors may have leased land and recorded the leases at the Registry of Deeds. Other types of documents were also recorded there, e.g., wills and marriage agreements. This lecture introduces the Registry of Deeds and how to research there. It discusses examples of documents that are loaded with genealogical information and demonstrates how to tie multiple research threads together in an attempt to reconstruct families.

Speaker Bio:
Nora Galvin, cg is a professional genealogist specializing in Irish and Connecticut research and genetic genealogy. A former secondary-school science teacher, she had a 16-year career as a laboratory scientist before starting her family-research business in 2005. Her work includes researching for clients and speaking on genealogy topics to genealogy societies and conferences. She is active in her local genealogy group, Connecticut Ancestry Society, and is editor of their quarterly journal. She is a past president of Connecticut Professional Genealogists Council and active as a volunteer consultant at their Ancestor Road Shows. Nora is a descendant of nine immigrants from eight counties in Ireland, and knows with absolute certainty where five of them originated. She is always looking for new information about the other four.
