TIARA Meeting – November 2020
November 13 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The Margaret Brent Suffrage Guild
Speaker: Virginia Wright
Lecture summary: Was your ancestor a suffragist? An amendment to the state constitution enabling women to vote passed the Massachusetts legislature but failed to win the required electorate approval. Catholic women responded by organizing their own state-wide suffrage organization. Founded in 1917, the Margaret Brent Suffrage Guild’s object was to obtain full suffrage for women and to take an active interest in public affairs. Many of the Guild’s members were women of Irish heritage.
