Monthly Meeting – Tracing the Sheridan Orphans from Strokestown, Roscommon, to Lockport, New York by Pamela Holland
In May 1847 1,490 tenants left the Strokestown Park estate in County Roscommon and walked to Dublin. After taking a packet steamer to Liverpool they set sail for Canada and arrived in August 1847 at Gosse Isle, Quebec. The history of many of these Irish immigrants is still unknown. However, six Sheridan orphans left Quebec and journeyed to Lockport, New York. This talk traces what happened to them and why they went to Lockport.
This meeting will be available via Zoom and in person at the Weston Library. The speaker will be in person at the Library.
