If you read your newsletter in PDF form on your computer,

NERGC Conference April 17-21, 2013

TIARA will participate in NERGC 2013 to be held this year April 17-21 in Manchester NH. There will be several speakers with a TIARA connection: Janis Duffy, Susan Steele, and Margaret Sullivan. The conference should be of great interest to our members. Early bird registration ends on February 28, 2013. Register online at www.nergc.org or by mail. As registration chair for the conference, TIARA president Mary Choppa encourages anyone attending to volunteer some time to the conference. TIARA has a volunteer commitment to the conference.

Mass Memories, November 2013

The Mass Memories Show coming up in November 2013. TIARA is working with the Irish Cultural Centre of New England, The Irish Consulate and The Eire Society to present this event with UMass Boston.

Family Search Indexing Project
Familysearch.org has completed the 1940 census indexing project. It took only 124 days to index 132 million records, due to unprecedented support from thousands of volunteers.
TIARA is proud to have been a part of this effort. Thirty-three TIARA members gave their time and effort to this project, so that everyone would have free access to the 1940 census. Together the TIARA team indexed 138,140 records, and arbitrated 52,558 records.
Familysearch.org has many more projects to be indexed, such as Passenger lists for Atlantic and Gulf ports, naturalization records, WWI draft registartions, and pension files.
Volunteers install software provided by FamilySearch on home computers, download images from the site,
type the data they read from the image via the software, and submit their work back to the site.
The data is eventually made available to the public -- free! -- at the FamilySearch website for use in genealogical and family history research.
Online tutorials are available. If you already have a login account at familysearch.org, you can add TIARA as your group.
This is a project that can benefit all of us! And you can do it on your own schedule, at home or elsewhere. Let's get started! Visit indexing.familysearch.org/ to download the indexing software and do a practice page.
